Lilian Bromley Davenport was the last of the Lane family to keep in contact with Kings Bromley after they left in 1928. She was the sister of the last Lord of the Manor JHHV Lane. She owned 'Silver Thatch' in Manor Road for many years.
Although she lived at Capesthorne she often visited Kings Bromley. On June 10th 1954 Lilian was named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. She became Dame Commander of the British Empire for her political and public service. She had been a County Councillor for years, Vice Chairman of the Council, Chairman of the Education Committee, a Governor of Macclesfield High School and the Kings School, Chairman of the County Nursing Association, a J.P. for the County and a Women’s Institute President.
She never lost the 'common touch' and is mentioned several times in the villager interviews in 'Hark Back'.
